Light in the tunnel for glowworm caves

Discover Waitomo has been given a $4 million lifeline as it waits for tourists to be allowed back.
It’s the first major business to benefit from the $400 million Tourism Sector Recovery Plan, with $20 million also being doled out today to the 31 regional tourism organisations.
Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis says the Waitomo Caves are a world-renowned tourism attraction that generate significant economic, cultural and employment benefits for the region.
He says the investment will help Discover Waitomo retain its highly skilled workforce.
The regional tourism organisations are seen as critical to rebuild the sector by coordinating activities alongside the industry, stakeholders, Māori and communities.
Mr Davis also appointed Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick and Tourism Holdings chief executive Grant Webster as co-chairs of the New Zealand Tourism Futures Taskforce.
