Polytech cuts threat to pandemic recovery

The Tertiary Education Union says NorthTec is cutting the courses and staff needed to help Northland recover from COVID-19.
The polytechnic has announced it will end its health and safety and English courses and review its trades and international education offerings.
TEU organiser Jill Jones says it’s a knee-jerk response to the current crisis that is out of step with the restructuring of the sector into a national institute of skills and technology, as well as the cash injection to trades training announced in last week’s Budget.
It will have wide-reaching effects on the community and iwi.
