Tamihere regrets Bridges and Bennett ousting
Māori Party co-leader John Tamihere says the change of National Party leadership makes the case stronger for getting his party back into parliament.
Mr Tamihere says even though ousted leader and deputy Simon Bridges and Paula Bennett did not identify strongly with te ao Māori, they had whakapapa.
"So the National Party now has picked its leadership and its leadership is 100 percent going to drive a pro-Pākehā policy because that's where its constituency is and because (Simon Bridges and Paula Bennett) are rolled now, it makes it an even stronger case for a Māori Party to be returned to the House because our voice has been silenced," he says.
