Ross response created seed of destruction for Bridges
A victory for Jami-Lee Ross.
That’s how New Zealand First MP Shane Jones sees the demise of Simon Bridges as National Party leader.
He says the Tauranga MP showed poor judgement at several critical points, including launching a massive investigation when detail of his travel costs as Opposition leader were leaked days before they would have been made public anyway.
That led to him pointing the finger at Mr Ross.
"Once Jami Ross started to leak against Simon, his days were numbered, because that type of leaking started to corrode the relationship between the National Party and their backers and many of the backers in Auckland are the rich and famous and they started to turn off the money tap, so it was only a matter of time before his days were over," Mr Jones says.
He says it’s too early to say how new National Party leader Todd Muller will perform, but he has a hill to climb because of the job Jacinda Ardern has done communicating with New Zealanders through the coronavirus pandemic.
