Ngati Whatua fighting Dome Valley tip
Ngāti Whātua is accusing Auckland Council of trying to sneak through approval for a controversial tip near Warkworth under the cover of the COVID-19 crisis.
Submissions close tomorrow on the applications from Waste Management NZ for a plan change and resource consent for the Dome Valley landfill, which the council notified in late March.
Rūnanga chair Dame Rangimarie Naida Glavish says the company can’t guarantee the giant tip won’t leach pollutants into streams leading to the Hoteo River and on to Kaipara Moana.
She says the iwi wants to work with the council to find environmentally sound alternatives.
