Maori protocols help work readiness

South Island whānau ora commissioning agency Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu is welcoming $500,000 grant to a Kaikoura scheme to prepare rangatahi for work.
Chief executive Helen Leahy says Bros for Change is run by Jaye Pukepuke, a former New Zealand Māori and New Zealand Rugby League representative and the Local Hero in the 2018 New Zealander of the Year awards.
The grant from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s He Poutama Rangatahi fund will cover a twenty-week leadership wānanga and wrap-around pastoral care for 36 young people.
She says Mr Pukepuke has gathered around him inspiring leaders who emphasise to rangatahi the value of strengthening whānau relationships and using the protocols of te ao Māori to encourage respect.
