The chair of Māori trade group Te Taumata wants to see a change in the way business is done in the wake of COVID-19.
Chris Karamea Insley says the pandemic has fundamentally changed the economy, and the priority has to be saving many existing jobs and creating new ones.
He says there must be a better way of doing business rather than a single-minded focus on profit.
"Here’s a time for us to take a deep breath and look at a different way of doing things that yes, where job creation through economic development is important but so too are a lot of the social drivers around our whānau. So is looking after the environment, our land, our rivers, all the climate change kind of issues. We've got to be looking at a different way of doing things," he says.
Chris Karamea Insley says Te Taumata has had discussions with various ministers about its proposals which it hopes to see reflected in tomorrow’s recovery Budget.
