Employment Minister Willie Jackson says today’s budget should go a long way to cushion the blows of the COVID-19 crisis.

Work done in the normal Budget cycle was set aside as Ministers worked with Finance Minister Grant Robertson on measures that could be implemented quickly.

He says there will be a mix of universal and targeted money.

"Employment is a focus for us, it's what we have been talking about, how do we cushion the blow for New Zealanders right across the spectrum, who've been really hit by this once in a century crisis. I'm comfortable we are on track with that. We also have our by Māori, for Māori targeted funding that will also be part of it," Mr Jackson says.
