Uptick in parties brings lockdown risk
A party pooper and proud of it.
That’s Finance Minister Grant Robinson’s response today to increasing reports from the public dobbing in neighbours holding parties with people outside their bubbles.
He says the police will take a dim view of such mass gatherings during their stepped-up enforcement patrols this weekend, as parties were at the root of a number of the COVID-19 clusters now being dealt with.
Any uptick in infections as a result of parties will mean the whole country having to stay in level 3 for longer.
Today there were three new confirmed cases, bringing the total of confirmed and probable cases to 1479.
One case was linked to overseas travel, one is still under investigation, and the third was a nurse involved in the care of patients transferred from St Margaret’s Rest Home in Te Atatu to Waitemata Hospital.
They are the third person from the hospital affected, and the Director of Public Health, Dr Caroline McElnay, says an investigation is being carried out as to how they may have been infected despite wearing full personal protective equipment and following the necessary protocols.
