Regional Economic Growth Minister Shane Jones says the Provincial Growth Fund will address the extra cost COVID-19 conditions may add to projects like the Hundertwasser Arts Centre and Māori Gallery in Whangarei.
Work on the waterfront centre and other infrastructure projects resumed today as the COVID-19 Alert dropped to Level 3 and up to 400,000 New Zealanders returned to work.
He says such projects were always done with a long term view.
"COVID slowed the work down. COVID has led to more costs associated with that and we will address those costs because we want that centre established. While tourism internationally is hibernating we need to continue to search for ways Māori tourism, domestic tourism can flourish until such time as we have reopened the borders," Mr Jones says.
Work on a network of tracks around Mt Taranaki is also resuming.
