Hayes relaxed as pressure mounts on leader

With National Party leader Simon Bridges under pressure from caucus members over his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the party’s Māori development spokesperson is saying que sera sera.
Mr Bridges sparked a huge push-back on Facebook for his response to the timing of the move from Alert Level 4 lockdown, and today the caucus is discussing a letter from veteran MP Nick Smith complaining about the formation of a new COVID-19 policy team that cuts across the work of National's general policy committee which Mr Smith chairs.
Jo Hayes says it’s a reminder a week is a long time in politics.
"Around leadership, what's happening with it, as far as I can see it's staying where it is. Why be silly about it. Why change the deckchairs around. if it happens it happens. It most probably won't," she says.
Jo Hayes says the Facebook incident was a case of good message but bad timing.
