The number of new COVID-19 cases dropped into single figures today, with just two confirmed and 6 probable cases.
That brings the total to 1409.
However, there were two further deaths, bringing the total to 11.
Dr Caroline McElnay, the Director of Public Health, says Waikato man in his 90s living with his family was admitted to Waikato Hospital on Saturday night and died yesterday.
The case was connected to the Matamata cluster.
And a woman in her 80s died at Burwood hospital in Christchurch.
She was the seventh death among a group of 20 patients transferred to Burwood for the dementia unit at the Rosewood Aged Care Home.
Dr McElnay says 4214 tests were conducted yesterday, including tests of 343 customers and staff at a Queenstown supermarket aimed at detecting any asymptomatic and community transmission.
She says have the results of that exercise have come back and all were negative.
There were further asymptomatic tests today in Christchurch and five Waitako towns, and DHBs around the country are stepping up tests of anyone with respiratory symptoms.
