Papakura Marae eyes job brokering role
The manager of a south Auckland marae says it’s ready to help deal with an expected spike in unemployment.
Tony Kake says Papakura Marae’s health clinic is continuing to operate through the lockdown, serving most patients remotely, and the marae is also distributing food to whānau.
He’s looking at what it needs to do after the lockdown.
"We will be looking to place people into as many jobs as possible. It's about working in partnership with our employers, particularly here in Papakura, We know most of them. We will be transitioning people into as many jobs as we can. That's the role we can play as a broker to employment, working with WINZ," Mr Kake says.
