Ngapuhi to get testing centre

The opening of a Community Based Assessment Centre for Ngāpuhi has been delayed until Friday.
The centre will be in the carpark of the Ngāpuhi Runanga offices in Kaikohe.
Rūnanga chair Mere Mangu says people who feel they may need a test are asked to ring 0800 NGAPUHI to book an appointment and to receive health and safety attendance instructions.
The centre will also take walk-in patients, but they may face a lengthy way.
It’s aimed at people who travelled overseas or had close or casual contact with a suspected, probable or confirmed case of coronavirus, or who are showing symptoms such as a high temperature or any acute respiratory infection including shortness of breath, cough or sore throat.
Ms Mangu says the rūnanga has also made considerable progress delivering food packs to whānau through the rohe, using marae as distribution points.
"The people at that marae will know everybody who lives around them, how many people are in that house so that they can cater for everybody rather than the distribution point giving them a set parcel. We know that our kuia, kaumatua, some are on their own. People at that marae who live close, they will take care of them," says Mere Mangu.
