Board picked for national skills institute
Former Te Puni Kōkiri policy head Kim Ngarimu has been named the deputy chair of the first governing council of the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.
The institute, which merges all the country’s polytechnics, was created as part of a major shake-up of vocational education.
Tertiary Education Minister Chris Hipkins says the reforms recognise learning is no longer limited to a classroom, and the Government is looking for substantial change so all New Zealanders can be equipped with the transferable knowledge and skills needed to take on different types of work throughout their careers.
The council is chaired by Murray Strong, who is also the chair of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
