Marae mahi for MOKO probe
Unitec’s Kaupapa Māori & Indigenous Research Centre wants to know what south Auckland marae want for their communities and how they can best be supported.
Ngā Wai a Te Tūi director, Professor Jenny Lee-Morgan says the three-year Moko research project, standing for Marae Ora, Kāinga Ora, will be done in partnership with the marae – Papakura, Manurewa, Makaurau, Mataatua and Papatuanuku Kokiri.
Each marae is quite different and serves a large proportion of the Māori community in the South Auckland area.
She says marae have always adapted to new contexts and are often the first to help in times of crisis.
