Māori Party co-founder Dame Tariana Turia says any past battles with John Tamihere are now history, and she is pleased the former Labour cabinet minister has come on board.
The party has selected the Waipareira Trust chief executive as its candidate in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Dame Tariana says she has never doubted his commitment to Māori.
“If you look back over his history everything he has done is about creating opportunity for our whānau, hapū and iwi. We may not have agreed at times – I can put myself in that box – but in the end I will never deny that this man has constantly been at the forefront of change for our families,” she says.
