Jeanette Fitzsimons message resonated with tangata whenua
Māori Party co-founder Dame Tariana Turia says the late Jeanette Fitzsimons was a woman of honour and integrity.
The former Green Party leader died yesterday in Thames Hospital after a fall at her Coromandel farm.
She was 75.
Dame Tariana says her word was her bond, and she never said something she did not mean.
She was also respectful of tangata whenua and willing to work alongside the Māori Party.
"I think that the messages she gave out were messages tangata whenua absolutely understood because it was how we were raised, to care for the land, to care for the people, the care what we ate. We may not have carried it out very well but we certainly knew," she says.
