Museum role for Gerard O’Regan
Former Kai Tahu heritage manager Gerard O’Regan is returning to Dunedin after 17 years to take up the roles of curator and pouhere kaupapa Māori at Otago Museum.
Dr O’Regan is currently working as a research fellow at the University of Auckland’s James Henare Māori Research Centre on advancing iwi capacity in wāhi tūpuna management, as well as leading a Marsden Fast Start project to help local kaitiaki identify and record North Island rock art.
He says he aims to apply his research and professional background to find new ways to revitalise taoka Māori within iwi and wider communities.
