Kapa haka overflow in Aotea Square
Kapa haka comes to central Auckland tomorrow with the holding of the regional finals being held in the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre at the Aotea Centre.
Ataahua Papa from Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development says with 17 teams vying for spots at Te Matatini 2021 at Eden Park, the competition will be fierce.
Tickets are sold out, but the proceedings will be broadcasted on a big screen in Aotea Square, and some kapa will also come out and perform.
She says it’s a chance to be part of the atmosphere.
"It’s going to be an action-packed day. So yes, you can stay home and watch it on live stream on your t.v but why would you do that? If you are in Tāmaki get down there and really tautoko. This will give us an indication of Matatini 2021. This will show Aotearoa how Tamaki can turn it on," she says.
The first group is on at 8 am and the competition runs until about 6 pm.
