Matai Smith for Te Matawai

Te Tai Rāwhiti Pae Motuhake has appointed broadcaster Matai Smith as its representative on Māori language advocacy body Te Mātāwai.
Mr Smith is the station manager for Gisborne iwi radio station Tūranga FM and deputy chair of national iwi radio body Te Whakaruruhau.
He was a graduate from the first intake of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo and has led rautaki reo for both Rongowhakaata and Ngāi Tāmanuhiri.
Te Mātāwai co-chair Waihoroi Shortland says as a television presenter and producer Mr Smith helped to pave the way for te reo Māori on screen, capturing the attention and imagination of young people.
He replaces Tātere Jeremy Mcleod, who has served a three year term.
