Ngati Awa extends rahui around Whakaari
Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa has extended on fishing and gathering kaimoana in its rohe until further notice.
Chair Hohepa Mason says two victims of last week's eruption on Whakaari-White Island are still unaccounted for and could be in the ocean.
Other maritime activities including swimming, kayaking and boating can resume after 11am on Friday.
Te Puia Whakaari/White Island remains completely out of bounds.
Mr Mason says the general public and manuhiri have respected the rāhui.
The search of the sea around the island and along the eastern Bay of Plenty coastline to Cape Runaway continued today, but police warn the bodies of tour guide Hayden Marshall-Inman and 17-year-old Australian tourist Winona Langford may never be found.
