Whakaari body recovery plan set

The recovery of bodies from Whakaari White Island is set to go ahead this morning.
Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Clement has announced the recovery team will involve specialists from the New Zealand Defence Force, police and other agencies.
He says police believe they know the location of six of the bodies that have been there since Monday’s eruption, and if they can’t find the other two in the limited time available they will leave.
The bodies will be taken on board the HMNZS Wellington for transfer to the mainland.
Ngāti Awa elder Maanu Paul says the delay in getting the bodies off has been frustrating, but the iwi supports the recovery being done with the appropriate tikanga.
