Goff pushing back on Auckland port move plan

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff is unhappy with a leaked report recommending Auckland’s port operations be relocated to Northport near Whangārei.
He’s critical of what he calls a lack of consultation by the Upper North Island Supply Chain Strategy working group with mana whenua and the council.
While conceding the port will eventually have to move, he says the $10 billion Northport option doesn’t add up.
"We need to know it's not just going to be a case of Big Brother coming in from Wellington and saying 'we'll take your port and put it in Northland, it will cost you more money, we won't pay you any compensation for the port, it will damage the environment, it'll put more traffic on the road from an inland port at West Auckland across to Auckland.' I'm not happy with what I've seen of the report so far and I certainly want more work done on it," Mr Goff says.
Cabinet is yet to consider the report.
