Kia Mau book launch coincides with Tuia250
“This is not just about resisting Tuia 250 and colonisation, it’s also about indigenous revitalisation, said lawyer Moana Jackson, who spoke alongside Victoria University lecturer Emalani Case of Hawaii, in support of the launch of Kia Mau a book written by advocate and academic Tina Ngata of Ngati Porou.

The event co-hosted by Poneke Solidarity Alliance (a group committed to the restoration of social justice for Maori and all peoples), and Kia Mau set up by New Zealand artist Robyn Kahukiwa, and fronted by Tina Ngata, drew a huge crowd at Wellington’s Loaves and Fishes last night.
“Kia Mau is a collection of essays about the doctrine of discovery , about its application in Aotearoa at the hands of Captain James Cook, and about the implications of re-entrenching some of these colonial fictions into our national dialogue” said Tina.
The book launch coincides with the arrival of Tuia 250 Flotilla made up of two tall ships one of which is Captain Cooks Endeavour, and three waka hourua.
Protests are already in place for the arrival of the Endeavour to Wellington harbour later today.
