Brash not welcome at Owairaka
A leader of the occupation on Ōwairaka maunga says she doesn’t want Hobson’s Pledge and its leader Don Brash involved.
Anna Radford says the protest against the Tūpuna Maunga Authority’s plan to remove 345 trees from the mountain is environmental rather than racial, and she supports its vision of cloaking the maunga with native trees but over 60 to 80 years, not 6 weeks.
Anna Radford says it’s the Tupuna Maunga Authority which has played the race card, rather than developing a positive partnership with the community.
Ms Radford's Protect the Maunga group intends to hold a separate meeting on the mountain tomorrow morning rather than accept an invitation from the authority to hui.
