Maori unemployment back to 8%
Employment numbers for the third quarter have come in slightly weaker than expected, but Employment Minister Willie Jackson says there is still a lot to celebrate.
The unemployment rate ticked up 0.3 of a percent to 4.2 percent, and the Maori unemployed rate went from a 10 year low of 7.8 percent up to 8 percent.
Private ordinary time wages were also up by 0.6 percent.
Mr Jackson says it belies the negative talk from the opposition.
"We’re seeing investment in the regions. We're seeing productivity better than most countries we deal with yet it's the end of the world if you listen to this other lot, so there's a lot to celebrate," he says.
