Crisis hui over Te Aute commissioner
Former pupils of Te Aute College have called a hui for all old boys and old girls over the sacking of the newly-elected board and its replacement by a commissioner.
Te Aute College Students Association interim chair Julian Wilcox says the appointment of yet another commissioner shows governance arrangements aren’t working.
Governance is split between a board of trustees which is responsible for the school and curriculum and a trust board representing the Anglican Church and the landowners which is responsible for the buildings and the hostel at the historic Maori boarding school.
Mr Wilcox says a different governance structure is needed.
He says the old boys and girls had been calling for a taskforce to work to resolve the school’s problems and set a path for the future but that work will now be led by the commissioner, Annie King.
The hui at the Hawke’s Bay school in November 10 will discuss whether the old boys and girls should continue to push for their vision of a taskforce of equals, and what other way they could be represented in the school’s governance.
