Lewis tapped for Lower Hutt leadership role
Two-term Harbour ward councillor Tui Lewis has been named the new deputy mayor of Lower Hutt.
She's of Ngāi Tai and Ngāti Manu descent and has lived in Petone for 40 years.
Mayor Campbell Barry says he was impressed with the way she works in partnership with local communities bringing people together on key issues and strongly advocating for her community.
Ms Lewis says her priorities include taking a more strategic approach city planning, brokering closer relationships with iwi and promoting tourism opportunities.
The mayor and councillors will be sworn in on Wednesday.
