Welcome to all at Manukau hotel
People from the four winds will now have a new spot to find shelter in south Auckland with the opening of a new hotel this morning.
Manurewa Papakura Local Board member Rangi McLean says the five-storey had the backing of both the board and the Māori community because of the jobs and economic boost it will bring the area.
Apart from blessing the site when the ground was broken exactly a year ago, mana whenua were also involved in the design of the four pou that are a feature of the building.
"They relate to the four winds, Tai Hauāuru, Tai Tonga, Tai Rāwhiti and Tai Tokerau. People from the four winds can participate in what it has to offer," Mr McLean says.
The hotel is already heavily booked for conference and events in the neighbouring centre, including next month's Māori Sports Awards.
