Tamariki take on space with Lego robots
Six Napier tamariki have been given a parliamentary reception for their second placing in the Lego League International Open competition in the United States.
The Black Bots team from Lucknow School and Mayfair School created a robotic device and a reality film for astronauts while they're in space.
Captain Jimmy August says their project aimed to answer the question of how astronauts keep in touch with family.
Ikaroa-Rāwhiti Meka Whaitiri says they're great ambassadors for the country.
"Two Pākehā boys and four Māori young people who are just passionate about robotics, passionate about IT, passionate about space and their schools backed them so we should as a country celebrate where we have got those young minds so we are not waiting until they are 20, we are promoting kids as young as 10 years old representing us on the international stage in terms of robotics and technology," she says.
