Eyes on the prize as Māori exporters tell their stories
Kiwa Digital, food companies Kono, Okains Bay Seafood and Te Pā Bay Wines and Anagenix, which develops nutraceutical and nutritional products, have made the finals of the Māori section of the New Zealand International Business Awards.
In addition Kono, the food and beverage arm of Nelson's Wakatu Incorporation, is a finalist in the best large business, excellence in design and inspiring preference for New Zealand categories, and its chief executive Rachel Taulelei is on the shortlist for the inspiring women leaders tohu.
The awards are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
Judging convenor David Downs says the record number of 59 finalists reflected a growing focus among exporters on their ability to tell their story effectively, which is an important part of selling products overseas.
Andrew Baker, one of the judges for the He kai kei aku ringa for Māori Excellence in Export category, says the nominees recognise the importance of Māori values, and they are developing distinctive products and narratives that have a real impact around the world.
