Wairoa gets help for rangatahi work project
The Wairoa Young Achievers Trust has got a $300,000 boost from the Government's He Poutama Rangatahi to extend initiatives which give rangatahi in the region a pathway into work and education.
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says it's a brilliant example of a community group working to give young people better opportunities, in an area which faces high unemployment.
The trust offers driver licensing, work training, pastoral care and post-employment support.
It also helps rangatahi overcome barriers to meaningful employment, like drug dependency, inadequate housing and transport.
