Pop up clinic as measles threatens Waikato
Te Kohao Health in partnership with the Waikato District Health Board is opening a pop up clinic in Hamilton East tomorrow to offer free measles vaccination.
Waikato has 18 confirmed cases of measles, and the number is expected to increase as the epidemic rages in south Auckland.
Clinic leader Linda Elgar says the priorities for tomorrow are children aged between 12 and 15 months and those that have been in contact with measles.
It is also trying to reach all children under the age of four enrolled with the NGO and those who have never seen a GP before.
Adults born after 1969 who have not been vaccinated, or those that cannot show if they have been vaccinated are recommended to catch up once there is more supply of the vaccine.
Since the beginning of September Te Kohao has administered 55 Measles Mumps Rubella or MMR vaccinations to its enrolled patients.
Ms Elgar says most have been children aged 12-15 months and 2 to 4 years olds catching up on scheduled immunisations.
