Recycled asphalt paves marae carpark

The carpark at one of the country’s most prominent marae is being repaved as a side effect of the Provincial Growth Fund.
As part of the PGF-funded upgrade of Gisborne’s central business district, up to 10 centimetres of asphalt was milled from the surface of the main Gladstone Rd.
That material is being used by Gisborne District Council and Downer NZ to pave the parking areas of Poho-o-Rawiri and Te Kuri a Tuatai Marae.
Apryll Parata, the senior regional official for Tairāwhiti at the Provincial Development Unit, says it’s a wonderful example of central government, local government, iwi and the private sector working together to meet common interests.
