Civics lesson in history result

The Prime Minister says the decision to make New Zealand history a core curriculum subject is an example of how individual action can drive change.
Jacinda Ardern made the surprise announcement at a function at parliament on Friday to unveil a plaque in the debating chamber commemorating the New Zealand Wars.
Among those at the ceremony were the former Otorohanga High School student Leah Bell who petitioned for a national day of commemoration for the wars and for them to be taught about in all schools.
"I hope that is a message to rangatahi and tamariki who write to me a lot that actually you can effect change. You don’t even need to be of voting age to make a difference. They started a petition and it might have taken a couple of years and a different Government but we are there and they have made a difference," Ms Ardern says.
