Storytelling gift earns awards nomination for JaLeace
Telling stories is how up and coming singer JaLeace Ormsby describes her craft.
JaLeace has been nominated in the Best Maori Female Artist category at this month's Waiata Māori Music Awards on the strength of her debut EP on Waatea Music, Love for the mic.
She says she and her twin Janea got the singing bug at Hauraki Plains College in Ngatea with inspirational music teacher Stu Green.
The EP came together in the Thames studio of producer and beat maker Carlos Marsh aka C-Traxx,
"I hear a beat and I think of a topic but the topic's got to relate to myself as well as other people that want to hear my music and then it just flows out and it's like storytelling pretty much," she says.
The Waiata Music Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Hastings on September 13, and before then JaLeace and C-Traxx will perform at the DJ Poroufessor Celebration Concert in Auckland next Sunday.
