Hubs building huarahi to mahi
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says a new skills hub in Manukau will be a place rangatahi can start building the skills they need to find a place in the workforce.
The hub opened this morning in offices just across the road from the bus station.
Mr Jackson says similar hubs in the central city and Tamaki have put 1500 people into the workforce over the past two years.
While a range of trades and skills can be addressed, there will be an emphasis on construction.
"We basically find out their needs and we fill their needs, but we know where our needs are, and so we are trying to push them towards the construction area and this is the place to do it, we have all the experts here who can help them with their cv's, with their training, what are the gaps, we will help them, and that is the real strength of these hubs," Mr Jackson says.
Another hub has opened in Glenfield to serve North Shore.
