DHB posts critical for health sector change
The director general of health is urging people to consider standing for their District Health Board in the October elections so they can contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of their communities.
Ashley Bloomfield says DHB boards play a critical leadership role in the health and disability system and they need committed people with a range of skills, backgrounds and experiences.
He identified the poorer health outcomes experienced by Māori and Pacific communities as a major challenge all DHBs need to address.
Other challenges include increased demand for services, a growing and ageing population, emerging technologies and workforce demands.
Nominations for elected DHB Board members close on August 16.
Boards also include members appointed by the Minister for Health, which is where many boards get their Māori members.
