South Island Whānau Ora Agency Acknowledged for ‘Communicating in Diversity’
Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu celebrated highly commended status for their Wave Nine – ‘Invest in Your Whānau’ campaign at the PRINZ Awards Gala Dinner in Wellington at the Beehive last night. The awards are designed to recognise outstanding public relations work and highlight the importance of good communications across every aspect of society.
Tā Mark Solomon, Board Chair of the Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency said he was particularly pleased the team has been awarded for their hard work by being recognised as finalists in the ‘Communicating in Diversity’ category.
“Since 2014, we have commissioned nine Whānau investment funding waves, invested in over 180 whānau entities and along the way there has been tremendous learning across our communication and engagement processes. Whānau Ora offers a collective approach to achieving wellbeing outcomes – fittingly, collective input and insights have driven our communication strategy”.
“With judging carried out by 38 senior public relations and communications practitioners for the 2019 annual industry awards, the acknowledgment shows that we seek only the best outcomes when it comes to giving whānau the opportunity to realise their aspirations”.
Ranae Niven, Senior Communications Advisor, Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu said, “A requirement of this campaign was to raise the profile and value of social innovation and encourage other whānau to consider how they might contribute to positive whānau transformation through social enterprise”.
“With a small team and limited budget there was a need to be as innovative and collective in the approach to carrying out the campaign requirements. This meant calling on the talents of staff, Whānau Ora entities who work within the creative industry, and taking on board learned insights and kaupapa Māori values in the approach,”
Chief Judge and Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand, Kate Woodruffe, said “the Awards recognise and celebrate the value that public relations professionals add to their organisations and communities”.
“In today’s environment, organisations face high levels of public scrutiny, and expectations of transparency and social responsibility. Public relations professionals play a critical role in helping organisations navigate this environment successfully by encouraging good business decisions as well as effective communication. The PRINZ Awards showcase the diverse range of success stories generated by our members,” she said.
