Dearlove after Tau’s seat on Ngāpuhi board

Former Mana candidate Clinton Dearlove is taking on Ngāpuhi chair Sonny Tau for the Hauāuru takiwā seat on the Ngāpuhi Rūnanga.
Mr Dearlove says getting involved in last year's Ngāpuhi Taniwharau protests against the leadership of the rūnanga gave him a window into the concerns of whānau and hapū.
He says 70 percent of Ngāpuhi are under 35, and it's time for a younger leadership.
"I went on tv a year ago to say that we need to start the conversation and this is a way to continue it. What better place to start than with the umanga, than with the business head of the rūnanga and the areas that Uncle Sonny at the moment occupies. The focus really is to get the people focusing on the kōrero about where our youth are coming from, focusing on the leadership of tomorrow so they can come today," Mr Dearlove says.
He has great respect for his uncle Sonny Tau and what he has achieved.
