Elders honoured in song for ngahere

Soulful singer Maaka Fiso has gone bush for his new video.
Moeke Te Whakaotinga was written to honour to his grandfather Moeke and great uncle Whakaotinga.
The video was shot in the middle of the Waitakere Ranges, by a stream and immersed in forest.
"The kupu are kua mate te ngahere, kua mate te kauri o ngahere. In Maoridom we refer to strong people in our lives as kauri trees, as totara trees, standing tall and standing strong. in this particular song the kauri tree and the totara tree has fallen, talking about by grandfather and my koroua, so that was the whole idea of the ngahere," he says.
