Tairāwhiti Festival keeps ticket prices down
Tairāwhiti Festival director Tama Waipara says he's looking forward to showcasing the best of the region's artists at prices whānau can afford.
The festival was launched last night with a choral performance at Manutuke featuring Annie Crummer and Tū Te Manawa Maurea.
The festival from October 4 to 20 will include 70 live performance events from more than 400 national and international performers.
"We're supported by Eastland Community Trust which means we are able to make those ticket prices accessible. It's still a lot of money for some people so by launching now it gives people enough warning and they can see what they want to come to, but it means an average ticket price of $20 to $25," Waipara says.
Tairāwhiti has a huge amount of local talent which will be showcased by the festival, as well as there being opportunities for collaboration and connection.
