Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board has declared a rāhui on parts of Lake Taupō and the upper Waikato River affected by a wastewater spill.
The breach of Taupō’s main wastewater pipe after a road subsided resulted in an estimated 800,000 litres of wastewater spilling into the lake last Tuesday.
Trust Board Chief Executive Topia Rameka says the rāhui against gathering food from Tapuaeharuru Bay, and the Waikato River to Aratiatia will stay in place until further notice.
