Expansion plans for Kāpiti Island lodge

Māori owners of a lodge on Kāpiti Island are getting help from the Provincial Growth Fund to scope out improvements to tourism infrastructure on the island, including upgrading the existing lodge and supporting facilities at Waiorua Bay.
Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones says the $635,000 grant to Waiorua Lodge Limited will also allow it to look at renewable energy sources.
He says the project could bring more people to the Kāpiti region which acts as a gateway to Kāpiti Island, and increase employment opportunities for local people.
