Mental Health Commission a coalition condition

New Zealand First health spokesperson Jenny Marcroft says the party is delighted its coalition condition for a Mental Health Commission will be realised in today’s Wellbeing Budget.
The party made the pledge to push for a commission after hearing from mental health advocate Mike King at its 2017 conference.
She says the government reviews such as the inquiry into mental health and addiction have fed into today’s Budget.
" The Wellbeing Budget, this is a world first, and what we are really looking to see is supporting our whānaus, taking care of people in housing, reducing poverty, taking care of the wellbeing of all the individuals in our society and Māori have predominantly really poor statistics in so many areas so I’m excited about how we can really build some momentum around creating drastic change for Māori in particular," Ms Marcroft says.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson will read the Budget at 2pm this afternoon.
