Bold leader for rail change

Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones says putting Greg Miller in charge of KiwiRail is a sign of the Government’s commitment to restore the fortunes of the state owned company.
Mr Miller left freight company Toll to head KiwiRail’s Board, but after an international search for a new chief executive he was asked to take on the role himself.
Mr Jones says he has shown a commitment to te ao Māori through his role giving Waikato Tainui strategic and corporate advice.
He says the Government wants to reinstate rail to a position of pride in New Zealand’s overall transportation system, and Mr Miller has not only the people skills but the knowledge of how to operate a successful business with rail at its heart.
"For those of us who are sick and tired of hearing roads are the only solution, KiwiRail is about to enjoy a greater profile but to achieve the necessary outcomes we need a captain at the helm who not only has experience but has a level of boldness and is up for the challenge to rehabilitate Kiwirail after many years of neglect," Mr Jones says.
