The head of Wakatū Incorporation’s Kono subsidiary, Rachel Taulelei, is to be given a Kea World Class New Zealand Award for her contribution to the sustainable food industry and her ongoing work promoting Aotearoa as a world-class producer of food and beverages.

Others who will be honoured at the awards ceremony in Auckland next month include Tim Brown, the co-founder of the Allbirds footwear company, and scientist and entrepreneur Elizabeth Iorns.

Ms Taulelei, a former New Zealand trade commissioner in Los Angeles, returned to Aotearoa to start up seafood distributor Yellow Brick Road.

When it was bought by Kono in 2015, she was asked to lead the parent company.
