Rangatahi grow climate conscious
Rangatahi have the opportunity today to say what Auckland needs to do in the face of climate change.
The Conscious Climate Mana Rangatahi Summit at Ruapōtaka Marae in Glen Innes is put on by Parakore Ki Tāmaki and Te Ohu Mana Rangatahi in partnership with Auckland Council.
Auckland mayor Phil Goff says it’s a great opportunity to hear the voices on young people on what will be the defining issue of their lifetimes.
"We know climate change is happening. We know the effects are going to be pretty dramatic. We know we have to make big changes to keep the rise in climate at or below 1.5 degrees and if we don't do that the environmental and economic costs will be huge. So this is a chance to have the voice of the rangatahi heard, listened to, responded to," he says.
Mayor Goff is keen to see what the hui proposes in terms of a climate action plan.
