New hands on board for marae grant role

Experience not just in governance and business but in marae restoration has been the criteria for selecting new members for the Lottery Oranga Marae Committee.
Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin and Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta have reappointed presiding member Edward Ellison and Arihia Tuoro to the board.
They also appointed three new members, Bonita Bingham, Niwa Nuri and Matt Te Pou.
Ms Martin says as well as bringing their expertise and knowledge in iwi and hapā development, they collectively have experience in the marae restoration process, governance, business management and finance.
As well as administering grant funding from Te Puni Kōkiri and the Lottery Grants Board, the Oranga Marae is a programme gives whānau and hapū advice and support to help develop their marae and achieve their goals, including not just building projects but activities to revitalise cultural knowledge.
